The 2000 Race was the 11th running of the classic event,
born out of an idea by Blondie Hasler in 1956. The race takes place every four years, starting in Plymouth, UK, and ending in Newport, Rhode Island, USA,
and is organised by the Royal Western Yacht Club of England. The 2000 event was the last time amateurs in the smaller yachts
raced alongside the professionals sailing 50 and 60ft
race boats.
